A new action packed card game from Education Outdoors, Inc. Coming to NY Toy Fair Booth# 6140

Eastport, MI January 2011: Can you be the first hiker to hike 100 miles in the new dice / card game “Hit the Trail”? The game is being released at Toy Fair 2011 from Education Outdoors , Inc. and is a unique, fast pace, nature inspired family game for ages 8+

How the game is played:

• Deal 7 cards out to each player.

• Each player picks a card and lays it face up. (This is where the strategy comes in) Do you pick a lower point card or a higher point card?

• Youngest player then rolls the three dice – trying to match one of the die or combination of dice to their card amount which is face up. Each time the die/dice combination match the players card that is face up, the player gets to move the card into their “mile pile” trying to be the first to hike 100 miles. But, beware of getting caught with a “cooler card” – like the mother bear & cubs in the trail.

If you get caught with one of the three cooler cards – you loose 10 miles.

Other twists in the game include bonus rolls if the player’s dice total the card amount that is face up. Don’t forget to look out for the trips /doubles rule which is when any of the dice come up with doubles or triples. You take a card from the person to your right.

“Hit the Trail” comes packaged in a mini backpack which includes 72 cards, 3 dice, and 2 pencils.

This is an incredible article about children needing to connect with the great outdoors, written by Paula Berube:

While admiring the capabilities of a Droid telephone recently it occurred to me how very different childhood and adolescent years are now compared to a generation or two ago. Children and teens today have the world literally at their fingertips through the use of the internet, laptops, blackberries, droids, iphones and the numerous other technological products out there. While the access to information can be an advantage and a good thing in many ways, it can be a huge disadvantage when it comes to children and nature. Children today have lost their connection with the great outdoors. We have a whole generation of children who may not choose to be stewards of our State and National Parks because they have no knowledge, experiences or empathy for them. This country is also facing a national health crisis that can manifest itself in largely preventable chronic diseases. In light of the growing concern for the lack of connectedness between children, teens, and whole families, with nature, and the health issues in our country, the SC State Park Service has joined forces with National Assoc. of State Park Directors in a national campaign known as Children In Nature. These organizations will work together to find a way to create a new generation of stewards, to unplug our children and reconnect them with nature and to improve the mental and physical health of our nation.

The physical and mental health of our nation has become such a priority that Doctors around the country have started handing out “park prescriptions” to patients. They have come to realize the importance of the outdoors for their patients and are now “medicating” their patients

with nature, in the form of detailed park trail locations, distances and recommended rates of exertion in addition to or sometimes in place of lab slips and prescriptions. Doctors are recommending their patients walk beaches and trails and wade in streams and tidepools in our National and State Parks. This countries State and National Parks are well on their way to becoming a valuable part of our Nation’s health care system.

Hunting Island State Park will become a part of this health care system and campaign by encouraging families to come out to the Park to hike, bike and walk our trails; to discover a new path to a healthy lifestyle. This campaign will focus on healthy outdoor recreation opportunities and environmental awareness. Families can rediscover quality family time, relaxation, nature and quiet time by discovering our trails. Just 30 minutes a day of walking can improve your health, reduce stress and add years to your life. Nature walking provides an easy and inexpensive way to address health issues with children and adults. The recently completed Lagoon Access Recreation Trail is an excellent trail for the beginner walker/hiker or the seasoned walker/hiker. The entire Trail system at Hunting Island is suitable for all physical fitness levels and is a great way to reconnect with nature. Please join the Park Service in encouraging your children and grandchildren to come out to the Park and hit the trails. Bring the whole family and make a day of it; hike, bike, walk or kayak, just get out there and get moving.

You can help children with cancer have a terrific and memorable summer by donating to the 3rd Annual Innamorato Sunrise Day Camp Carnival. The event is May 22nd in Syosset NY.

Proceeds from the carnival will benefit Sunrise Day Camp, the only dedicated day camp in the nation for children with cancer and their siblings. Sunrise is a very special place where children can come free of charge, and enjoy a summer filled with fun, friendship and activities – things often denied them because of their medical condition.

Recognizing the extraordinary financial and emotional demands that a child’s chronic illness can have on a family, Sunrise Day Camp is offered free of charge, and is funded solely by the generosity of others. Sunrise Day Camp and all of its programs are designed to safely meet the children’s social, emotional and recreational needs, while allowing them to enjoy the comforts and security of their own home at night.

2009 was a tough year for the toy industry. The new CPSIA regulations, along with a soft economy made it hard for many toy & game manufacturers to stay in business, let alone create new innovative products. However the tone of this Year's American International Toy Fair in NYC was one of optimism and new beginnings.

This year at TF we were very honored to receive the 2009 Game of the Year from Fat Brain Toys. Every year they let the consumers vote on their favorite products. A big thanks to Fat Brain Toys and all of you who voted for us!

One of the coolest aspects of Toy Fair is all the solid relationships we have built over the years with fellow manufacturers, sales reps, and retailers. Our rep group for MI & OH Maggie & Me has been a champion for us since day 1. We've been so grateful to John & Debby for all their hard work, and taking a chance on us when we first started. This year John Boris is retiring after 40 years in the toy industry. We will miss you John!
Retailers Phil and Diane of The Toy House & Baby Too in Jackson, MI have been a huge support for us over the years. They not only share valuable retail wisdom, we also consider them very dear friends. It's always a pleasure to connect with them in NY.

Paczesny’s passion for the great outdoors sparked his concept based on the beloved campfire legend known as the “Snipe Hunt”.
“I wanted to create a game that would challenge families to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.” Says Paczseny, “ As a company it’s our obligation to encourage active play, the Snipe game does just that.”

In 2006 Education Outdoors, Inc. released it’s staple CAMP board game to specialty and outdoor retailers. The unique selling proposition of the game was the multi-level playability, where a whole family could play at the same time, (hence the name: “The Game that Grows with You”). After the players have hidden their snipe the other player will try to find it. After a period of time, if the Snipe shave not been discovered, they will chirp and then their eyes will light up.

Camp Board games are making a big comeback. As families seek more quality time together, “old-fashioned” board games are regaining their popularity. So are new ones, and one of the hottest in North America is Camp. What is cool is that Camp was developed by Education Outdoors Inc, in Eastport (between Elk Rapids and Charlevoix). Both children and adults learn fun facts about the great outdoors by playing Camp. The game is designed to grow with the player, starting at Level One questions, which primarily involve the identification of animals. As the players increase their knowledge of the outdoors, they grow into the higher level questions. Parents and children can play against each other to see who gets to “Camp first.” Created and developed by outdoor Tim Paczensy, Education Outdoors Inc. is showing tremendous growth since opening in 2005. “As young professionals my wife and I almost moved back downstate a few years ago to look for greener financial pastures,” said Jesse DenHerder, vice president of marketing and product design. “Then Education Outdoors came along and we stayed. A big thanks to the Lake Superior Trading Company for supporting our CAMP™ game at this years Moose Madness Festival in Grand Marais, MN. They will be playing CAMP™ at 11, 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday and 10, 11 and 2 on Sunday. Small prizes for participants!

About the Festival
Grand Marais is crazy for Moose Madness! It's rutting season, and signs of moose are all over town - especially in shops, cafes, lodging facilities and many locations outdoors. Our favorite alces alces, Murray, will be around town for the much sought-after photo opportunity, and moose-related activities are planned for everyone!

Schedule of Events
The moose medallion search begins Friday morning and continues throughout the weekend until the medallion is found, worth 2 nights' lodging and a restaurant certificate. The East Bay Suites shuttle makes several trips up the Gunflint Trail, so you'll have the opportunity to join in on a moose quest. Big Brothers / Big Sisiters(BBBS) of the Bay Area covers Delta, Dickinson, Menominee and Schoolcraft counties in the U.P., as well as Florence and Marinette counties just inside Wisconsin. Board Member Tanya Schuster of Escanaba, who has been involved with the organization for five years, relates that "even though most of what we do is handled through volunteer labor, we still need money to maintain the business and make the service available to our youth and the mentors who want to join them." Michigan began a Families Afield/Youth Mentoring Program several years ago. BBBS of the Bay Area has picked up on those programs with their version that incorporates them with their Outdoor Mentoring Program. To do so, they match caring adults with a passion for the outdoors with "Littles" that want to learn more about the outdoors, whether it is hunting, fishing, archery, hiking or just about any other traditional activities. BBBS recently found another way of merging minds of the young and old by incorporating a unique new game to the fold and using it as a fund raiser project. Tim Paczesny from Eastport, Mich. has developed a game and is distributing it through his company, Education Outdoors, Inc. The name of the game is "Camp" and is designed so both children and adults can play and learn fun facts about the great outdoors. The new board game Camp is designed so both children and adults can play and learn fun facts about the great outdoors. Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bay Area is using the game to help teach "Littles" about the outdoors. The game is designed to grow with the player, starting at level one questions which are primarily identification of animals. As the players increase their knowledge about the outdoors, they grow into the higher level questions. It is a fun and educational game where parents and children can play against each other to get to Camp first. BBBS of the Bay Area also feel it will help accomplish, in part, what they have set in the Outdoor Mentoring Program principles: Respect for our natural resources and the heritage that has been built in conservation since the days of Theodore Roosevelt and Aldo Leopold. The format is modeled somewhat like Trivial Pursuit. The object of Camp is to be the first person to start a game piece at the campfire and move it around the board, following the footprints and finishing back at the campfire. All players choose a game piece and place it on a seat by the campfire. Each player must choose a level they would like to play. Level one is the easiest (suggested for beginners) and level four the hardest. The youngest player is first to roll the die and players takes turns in a clockwise order. Mentoring comes into play when the young participants learn from the experienced players. Their minds are also taxed to imagine circumstances and situations from the outdoors experience. It has a lot more creativity and challenge than many computer games and allows multiple participants which can also help you reconnect with your family while learning about the outdoors. The game is endorsed and was sponsored by U.P. Whitetails Association, Inc., and is available locally through the Northern Lodge Down Company, 7292 US Highways 2, 41 and M35 between Escanaba and Gladstone.
